EPC Portal: Digital Transformation in EPC Project Execution

The construction of modules for the FPSO-type platform (floating production, storage and transfer unit) that will operate in the pre-salt, successfully delivered in January 2020, was the most recent project in which the EPC Portal represented a important differential for quality and compliance with deadlines. The EPC Portal of the EBR Shipyard, which is part of the Toyo Setal Group, is an integrated tool that allows, through a web browser, to monitor all the data generated in several isolated systems, optimizing the execution and management of all stages of a project, which is essential in highly complex works.

“This integration of engineering and management software enables an analytical way to manage the projects, to carry out consistency checks between 2D and 3D tools, and to carry out real-time monitoring of the physical progress throughout the entire supply chain. project. We can monitor requisitions, purchases, deliveries, manufacturing process, assembly and commissioning. All this within the same “portal”, explains EPC technology and systems manager, Rodrigo Sasso.

He explains that the EPC Portal began to be developed by the company 10 years ago, when digital transformation was not even talked about. The initial focus was on engineering, later going on to also incorporate the procurement, construction and commissioning processes, making the tool more complete and robust.

Centralized Control

Among its benefits, Sasso highlights centralized control, data integrity and real-time updating, facilitating decision-making. “The use of the Portal allows reducing the time to search for information in decentralized systems and improves the management of materials and deadlines, avoiding the need to mobilize additional resources, which is common when a project is managed using decentralized tools. It’s a big improvement in governance, which no longer uses paper documents,” he explains. For the customer, one of the great benefits is the delivery of the fully digital project, which facilitates the operation and maintenance of the plant, as well as the possibility of having access to the system to monitor the project, practically in real time.

According to Sasso, evidence of the high quality of the EPC Portal is its external recognition. The portal has already received three awards from the North American systems developer AVEVA, an award from Petrobras and an honor from ABERIMEST (Brazilian Association of Engineering Companies and Telecommunications and Infrastructure/IT Professionals). In addition to the process modules delivered in January 2020, the EPC Portal has already been used in COMPERJ (Rio de Janeiro Petrochemical Complex) projects, in the Hydrogen Generation Unit for Petrobras, in the Fertilizer Unit (UFN-V), in Uberaba (MG), and on the topside of FPSO P-74.
