Toyo Setal and EBR have just received ISO 37001 certification – Anti-Bribery Management System, the first international standard addressing the subject.
This achievement dates back to 2015, shortly after the regulation of the Brazilian Anti-Corruption Law, when Toyo Setal and EBR launched their robust Compliance Program, structured on the pillars of Decree 8.420/15.
According to Marcelo Lima, Chief Compliance Officer (CCO), “the certification came to show the market that this matter is already part of our culture.” Work to obtain the certification began in 2019. “It took two years of effort to align our program with the requirements of ISO 37001. An internal system called Compliance Tools was created, featuring several KPIs and performance measurement indices. For example, our compliance rate with this system was above 95% last year,” Marcelo highlights.
Toyo Setal was audited by an external company with about 160 years of experience and presence in 70 countries, conducted in person at the head office and online at worksites due to the pandemic. “We were certified without any non-conformities or recommendations for adjustments, which is uncommon for this certification.”
With the certification, Marcelo adds, “what we have achieved over these years was not only creating an anti-bribery compliance program and management system, but building a culture. We now have a mature and consistent program, with full involvement and unconditional support from senior leadership.”
